“These industry experts will help the students fine-tune their concept, write a business plan, and identify their target audience,” said DeWayne Johnson, YEA! program director. “YEA! relies on the generosity of its sponsors; people who identify with entrepreneurship and want to help pave the way for future entrepreneurs.”

The YEA! 2018-2019 Superstar Sponsor is Southwest Georgia Bank, and Premier partners include Georgia Power and Valdosta State University Enactus. In addition, Investor Panel Judges include:

“We can’t wait to see the results of their passion and creativity,” said Jonathan Miller, owner of Miller Hardware. “As a community, we are very fortunate to have this program influencing the business forecast of Lowndes County.”

During the course of the 20-week program, local businesses have an opportunity to become involved with YEA! at various levels. From teaching the basics of business to inviting students to tour their companies, volunteers participate in a variety of capacities.

“Students work in close cooperation with local business and community leaders and educators, who use their personal experiences to demonstrate how to develop ideas and objectives, pitch to potential investors, obtain funding, register with governmental agencies, establish e-commerce and a web presence, and more,” said Johnson. “By the end of the class, students own and operate fully-formed and functioning businesses that they can continue after graduation from the program.”

South Georgia Connections Named Leading Business of the Week

The Chamber Ambassadors honored South Georgia Connections as the Leading Business of the Week for Dec. 3, 2018.

For more than 60 years, South Georgia Connections has provided services welcoming newcomers to the community by providing the resource guide “FYi* South Georgia”, which is distributed throughout the region.

“We are delighted to offer this guide free and as it says on the front cover, it is ‘priceless’ to the communities that we service due to the support of local businesses,” said Patti Minton.
South Georgia Connections offers a personable and customize service for newcomers to the community.

“Our service connects newcomers with the community to help them bloom where they are planted,” said Minton, “even if it is for a short time or if they retire in the area.”

Minton and Karen Reissiger have welcomed newcomers to the area for the past 25 years. They understand it can be overwhelming to move to a new community and search for businesses and services.

“We feel this is a ministry, as we help families arriving in town to find jobs, friends, a church home, and assist with the over whelming task of getting settled in a new community,” said Minton, who serves as a Chamber Ambassador. “This is very rewarding to see how our service has helped families reestablish in their new communities with the trusted businesses we represent.”

South Georgia Connections is a proud member of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce.

“We feel being part of the Chamber of Commerce gives credibility to our service for those who don’t know us and allows us to meet new businesses arriving in town” said Minton.
