The Chamber Board of Directors welcomed South Georgia Medical Center CEO, Ronnie Dean to the Chamber to congratulate him and the regional medical center on their recent 4-star overall quality rating.
The prestigious title was awarded by the US Medicare and Medicaid Services. SGMC is the only hospital in the area to reach this level. SGMC ranks among the top 30% of hospitals nationally. Chamber Board Chairman, Lee McArthur, is excited for what this not only means for SGMC, but the entire community. “Our local business community supports SGMC not only because a growing community must have quality health care , but because we believe that the success of SGMC and the entire medical services and support sector is the key to prosperity in South Georgia in years to come,” McArthur stated. With Dean being new in his position, this was the first time that many Chamber Board members had met him. Incoming 2020 board member, Lisa Register, was left with a great first impression. ”We were incredibly impressed with Ronnie Dean. He is very knowledgeable yet enthusiastic and easily approachable. He is exactly what Valdosta has been waiting for,” said Register. The board looks forward to having Dean at SGMC for years to come and was thrilled to hear that he is equally as invested in the local business community. Plastic Surgery Associates Goes Premium at the Chamber
Although new members of the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber, Plastic Surgery Associates jumped in with two feet joining at the Premium Level. Owned and led by Dr. Sonya Merriman, Plastic Surgery Associates is committed to providing high quality services and care. They fulfill the need of both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery to those in South Georgia and North Central Florida. Dr. Merriman has been in practice for 28 years, 24 of which have been with Plastic Surgery Associates. Some of the practice’s lesser known amenities fall within their business-within-a-business, The Aesthetic Center. This entity encompasses all non-surgical practices such as Botox, skin rejuvenation and laser hair removal. “These procedures have been a part of our practice for years, but we have recently started our rebranding of the aesthetic center to let our patients know everything we provide,” Merriman said. Offering procedures both surgical and non-surgical sets Plastic Surgery Associates apart from their competitors. “We are able to evaluate you from start to finish, providing the entire package,” explained Mandy Parks, Practice Administrator. The employees of Plastic Surgery Associates boast exceptional credibility. In addition to Dr. Merriman’s credentials, the aestheticians work closely under board certified surgeons, which is unique for a med-spa. While customer service and quality practice will always be top priority, community involvement and connection ranks high on Plastic Surgery Associate’s list and played a part in their decision to join the Chamber at the third highest level. “We were looking for more networking opportunities and a chance to be around other business owners,” Merriman shared. For this reason, Merriman is most looking forward to attending future Business After Hours events. Parks is most excited about exploring different outlets they had yet to utilize, like joining the Chamber’s Certified Military Friendly Program. “Certified Military Friendly is great for our marketing. It is helping us reach a different demographic we had been hoping to target,” Parks added. Merriman, Parks and the rest of Plastic Surgery Associates are looking forward to becoming even more involved with the Chamber in time. For more information on Plastic Surgery Associates, call them at 229-242-3002 or visit them at 230 Northside Drive. Valenti stated, “It was great to be with these bright young people who are taking an interest in entrepreneurship and to speak to them about the accounting aspects of running a business.” As part of the YEA! program, students are introduced to all facets of the business world including advertising, insurance, graphic design, web development and legal issues. Over the course of this year’s YEA! program, 17 students will launch their own businesses. As a non-profit organization, YEA! relies on the generosity of the community and of sponsors; people who identify with entrepreneurship and want to help pave the way for the future business leaders of tomorrow. “YEA! strengthens the community, and the community strengthens YEA!,” said Gayle Jagel, the founder and CEO of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy. “Our program managers and instructors seek out people in the business community to help transform our students’ dreams into reality.” During the course of the 26-week program, more than 30 local businesses become involved with YEA! in various ways.
