The start of the New Year means many things to different people. To the Government Affairs Council it means the start of a new session of the General Assembly. “We look forward to the start of the legislative session as it is one of the ways we can best advocate for our members, as enshrined in our mission statement ‘To serve as the voice of business in our community’” said Myrna Ballard, President of the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber.
One issue that has, and will most likely continue to garner attention, is Senate Bill 2, which will expand broadband internet access throughout the state and greatly help South Georgia businesses right here at home.
Better broadband access will help improve productivity, is a needed infrastructure upgrade, and will enumerate the economic impact that Lowndes County has in our great state. John Page, Chairman of the Chamber’s Government Affairs Council had this to say regarding the bill: “This bill is a needed remedy in South Georgia and across the state. The economic growth that broadband provides shouldn’t be limited to just the Atlanta area. To recruit new industry and expand existing businesses in our area and the rest of rural Georgia we must have access to broadband. These businesses require broadband to operate and connect to the rest of the business world. It's truly a matter of economic life or death.”
