Workforce Education Support Team

The Education Council, Inc. dba WEST, Inc. is a 501(c)3 qualified charity established in June 1993 (EIN 58-2027375). Coordinated and managed by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, WEST, Inc. has provided significant funding for numerous entrepreneur education initiatives and education/workforce support activities for nearly 25 years.

Mission: To enhance the educational and technical training experiences for students, to provide educational tools to entrepreneurs, and promote increased cooperation and understanding between the business and educational communities.

STAR Program

STAR ProgramThe Student Teacher Achievement Recognition program recognizes Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been instrumental in their academic development. Since its inception in 1958, the STAR program has honored more than 27,500 high school seniors and their STAR Teachers.

 

The purpose of the STAR program is threefold:

  • to recognize academic achievement in Georgia's high schools and to motivate students to be good scholars and high achievers
  • to honor excellence in teaching, to promote teaching as a career and to encourage outstanding teachers to remain in the classroom
  • to demonstrate the business community's commitment to excellence in education and to increase interaction between students and the business community

Sponsorship Fee: $2,000

Eagle Reception

Eagle ReceptionCelebrating its 26th year, the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education program recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in statewide adult literacy classes.

​The Awards Program is designed to create a greater awareness of the educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
